Oscar-winning director dies suddenly
Oscar Winner Minghella Dies at 54
This is wildly unexpected and had my jaw gaping at my desk when I read the headline. The Oscar-winning director of The English Patient has died of a brain hemorrhage. Minghella was only 54 years old. Personally, I’m partial to The Talented Mr. Ripley and have found most of the director’s other works to be a little overcooked, though he also served as a producer on several films that he did not direct, including last year’s taut George Clooney thriller Michael Clayton. This is certainly very regrettable, as it was certain that Minghella had many projects left in him.
