The new GI bill to finally be passed
Word is that Congress has come to an agreement on the Iraq war funding bill and that this agreement will include the new GI bill that was originally introduced by Jim Webb. Word is that both parties have agreed to this new bill and the Bush is expected to sign it (he had previously been expected to veto).
Of course, now that it’s going to pass, John McCain is saying that he supports it. In fact ABC’s Political Radar blog quotes him as saying that his main issue with the bill was that it had not previously allowed for transfer of the benefits to family members, which this new version of the bill allows. Funny, I recall McCain echoing George Bush’s line on the GI bill, which was him stating that giving vets extra money to go to school would hurt recruitment, even though the statistics do not bear that out.
Hopefully the mainstream media won’t let him get away with trumpeting his support for a bill he roundly criticized until now. I can dream, right?
