What’s going on with the Daisies

It’s been several weeks since the last episode of Pushing Daisies. I don’t know about you, but I’ve been having my share of whimsy withdrawals. ABC has left fans of Daisies, Eli Stone and Dirty Sexy Money hanging by not only cancelling the shows, but also by keeping us in the dark about when the remaining episodes of these shows might finally air.
Well, the good news is we now have something of an answer. The bad news is that it’s months away! Word on the street is that the completed episodes of these shows could air as late as summer. ARGH!!!!!
In other news, the women of Daisies are setting fans’ hearts aflutter by planting the seeds of speculation about bringing the show to the big screen. This is a familiar rumor, having hit the mill after almost any show with a cult following finds its way to the chopping block prematurely (e.g., Arrested Development, Veronica Mars). My knee-jerk reaction to these things is always to be a little suspect. A film does not a season of television make. Things always have to be sacrificed to fit it to the format. After all, my love of Daisies had very little to do with the weekly stories being especially captivating (thought they could be), it had more to do with the glorious escapism of spending an hour in that world with those characters. I’m just not that convinced that they can put together a plot captivating enough to fill two hours. Still, my heart thirsts for more Daisies and Joss Whedon certainly proved to us that film spin-offs of cancelled television shows can, indeed, be something very worth watching.
