Castle Season 2 Check-Up

I don’t really have a whole lot to say about the new season of Castle because not a whole lot has changed since the first. When it comes down to it, there’s one reason and on reason alone that I watch and will continue to watch this show: Nathan Fillion.
This will never be a show I love. When it comes down to it, it’s just an episodic procedural—albeit one with a pretty good sense of humor—and I’m a serialized kinda girl. Due get my enjoyment from it, I usually just try to ignore the crime-fighting police detective aspect of the show and view it more in terms of its sitcom qualities. Stana Katic’s Kate Beckett is growing on me a little bit, but she just not nearly as interesting or dynamic as her co-star. The show only really lights up when Castle’s at home with his mother (Susan Sullivan) and daughter (Molly Quinn), especially since this season he’s gotten a little extra protective of his growing teenage girl.
If there’s one thing this show has really made me appreciate, it’s how fantastic a leading man Fillion really is, because, frankly, this show is pretty sub-par, but he elevates it to something that I really have very little problem making part of my regular viewing schedule. I’ve loved him since Firefly, and while it was obvious that he was great in that show, it was also an amazing character, writing and a supporting cast that could make anyone look good. Castle has proven that Fillion can take what’s a pretty mediocre show and make it worth watching.
