Richard Burr is blocking Tammy Duckworth’s nomination for no good reason
It’s been awhile since I’ve discussed politics here. Frankly, I just haven’t seen much worth talking about. You’ll forgive me, but I just don’t really care whether or not Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck or whoever the hell wants Obama to fail. I just don’t think they matter enough for me to give a crap. So this makes Senator Richard Burr of North Carolina very special. He’s managed to find a way to make me mad.

Dolls of the Obama girls, good grief

Maybe my biological clock is switching into gear, but I’ve noticed that I feel greatly protective over Malia and Sasha Obama. I was really annoyed when the anchors at MSNBC were reporting what the girls were going to be eating for lunch and all the other fervor that was going on when these poor girls already had to deal with the stress of starting a new school in a new city, hundreds of miles from their old one. I’m sure it’s brought on by the fact that, right now, they both seem incredibly sweet and mostly untouched by the madness that has surrounded their family and it only seems like a matter of time before that madness will catch up with them.
Well, if reciting the girls lunch menu on cable TV is annoying, where does creating “Sweet Sasha” and “Marvelous Malia” stuffed dolls fall? Yes, that’s right, Ty, the makers of Beanie Babies, have released dolls in the guise of the first daughters. Seriously, WTF?!? Not surprisingly, Michelle Obama is not happy about this and I don’t blame her.
What’s really ridiculous is that Ty seems to be doing a massive tap dance around whether the dolls are, indeed, based on the Obama girls. Thursday, the Chicago Sun-Times had company spokeswoman Tania Lundeen saying:
“They’re such adorable girls, how can we resist?”
But in an AP report that came out the same day, Lundeen skirting the issue in this way:
The Oak Brook-based company chose the names because “they are beautiful names,” not because of any resemblance to Malia and Sasha Obama, said spokeswoman Tania Lundeen.
“There’s nothing on the dolls that refers to the Obama girls,” Lundeen said. “It would not be fair to say they are exact replications of these girls. They are not.”
Yeah right lady, who are you trying to fool?
